ISSD AFRICA CONFERENCE

Evidence show that smallholder farmers face myriad challenges in getting reliable access to sufficient quantities of quality seed of superior varieties at the right time and at an affordable price and that affects their agricultural productivity, income resilience and livelihoods.

Against this backdrop, the Integrated Seed Sector Development Program in Africa (ISSD Africa), in collaboration with its partners, the Center for Development innovation (CDI), Netherlands, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Netherlands, the Future Agricultures consortium (FAC) and Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development of Egerton University, will be holding a two-day conference in Nairobi, Kenya on September 19 – 20, 2016, to share the outcomes of the two-year Piloting Phase, alongside the discussions on how to translate these findings into change agendas. The Synthesis Conference, whose theme is “Breakthroughs for a vibrant Seed Sector in Africa”, brings together seed experts from around the continent, government agencies, as well as donors and development partners. The conference presents an opportunity to build a basis for follow-up with a view to the creation of an African-owned enabling structure and network that will enhance farmers’ access to quality seed of superior varieties, hence contributing to food security and economic development agenda in Africa.

Various sessions will be organised around a series of action learning topics, where lessons learned will be shared, as well as frameworks developed for follow up in a potential subsequent phase of the program.

Given the power of information for transformational development, ISSD Africa is interested in media coverage. Kindly arrange for coverage of the event.
