The United Nations resident coordinator Edward Kallon has warned of grave concerns over news of renewed killings by Boko Haram.

More than 40 people have been killed in separate incidents over the last few days as Boko Haram attacked civilians in Borno state.

Kallon ured government and security forces in the region to “scale up their efforts aimed at protecting civilian communities especially in areas where sporadic attacks have been recorded recently.”

“These attacks, if unchecked, may reverse the gains made so far in securing lives and property in the region.”

Elsewhere in Kaduna, more than 50 people were reportedly killed in communal clashes in Kasuwan Magani area in southern Kaduna state.

The coordinator urged state authorities to “seriously look into circumstances leading to these clashes, which have become too common.”
